I was a freelance writer.
I wrote for clients, mainly blog articles and the odd website copy. I also edited a lot of existing content. Too much.
Like most freelancers, I began working on content platforms like Copify, Upwork, and Fiverr. I assumed these job sites would be my endless source of income and loyal clients.
And like many writers like me, touting how they made a living through this writing style, I thought I was here to stay.
Fast-forward twelve months, and I quit my freelancer role. Goodbye clients. I vowed never to return to this style of writing and so-called independence.
Gone forever.
On the surface, there was no reason why I should have walked away from freelancing writing. I made some money, and the work seemed to be there. As more platforms emerged on the market, my decision to quit continued to seem misguided.
But I don’t regret my decision to quit my freelance writing career.
Upon reflection, it was the best decision I ever made.
