First Lady of the United States Melania Trump has introduced a new student competition called the Presidential AI Challenge.

The program is open to children and teenagers in kindergarten through 12th grade and encourages them to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can help solve problems in their local communities.

Participants are asked to form teams and design AI-based projects that respond to real-life challenges. Every team must be guided by an adult mentor, such as a teacher.

In a video shared on X on August 26, the first lady said:

Just as America once led the world into the skies, we are poised to lead again, this time in the age of AI.

She spoke about her own experience using AI to create an audio version of her 2024 memoir and explained how it showed her the value of this technology.

Students interested in taking part can sign up on the official challenge website. Projects must be submitted by January 20, 2026. In 2026, each state will name its winners, who will then advance to one of five regional competitions.

Finalists from those events will be invited to Washington, DC, for a three-day event at the White House in June 2026. There, they will be able to present their projects to officials, educators, and other guests.

Winners at the national level will receive $10,000. This prize can be awarded either to their school or divided among the team members.

Geoffrey Hinton, a former executive at Google, recently shared concerns about the future of AI and its impact on humans. What did he say? Read the full story.
