Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), a security technology company based in Germany, has entered into a global partnership with Daon, a digital identity firm headquartered in the US.
The agreement will see both companies collaborate across various sectors and technologies, with a focus on improving identity verification and biometric authentication.
The partnership aims to integrate Daon’s digital identity capabilities with G+D’s existing portfolio, strengthening the security of solutions offered to clients in banking, financial technology, telecommunications, and public sector digital identity programmes.
This includes initiatives such as electronic ID schemes, mobile driving licenses, and broader digital identity systems.
A key focus area for the partnership is the financial services sector, which continues to face challenges related to fraud, fragmented identity infrastructure, and regulatory demands.
According to the two firms, many cases of fraud can be traced to weak identity management processes.
The integration of Daon’s platform allows G+D to extend its digital identity offerings across the customer lifecycle, from onboarding and transaction authentication to account recovery.
Security features include biometric watchlists and detection of synthetic identities such as deepfakes.
One of the specific solutions highlighted is G+D’s Convego TAP, which enables identity recovery using a combination of passkeys and step-up authentication.
This approach uses a card as a secure token, allowing banks to support users in the event of device loss or theft with a hardware-based, phishing-resistant recovery method.
In the telecommunications sector, the partnership supports the integration of Daon’s TrustX platform with G+D’s eSIM management system.
This combined solution is designed to help mobile network operators verify customer identity and secure the issuance and transfer of eSIMs.
G+D, which was responsible for the first commercial SIM card and eSIM, stated the move reflects an effort to reduce SIM-related fraud and enhance customer verification processes.
Gabriel von Mitschke-Collande, Chief Digital Officer at Giesecke+Devrient, said:
“By combining Daon’s leadership in digital identity trust with G+D’s expertise in secure digital transactions, this global partnership delivers more than just protection, it enables seamless identity continuity across all customer touchpoints. Our layered approach provides multiple opportunities to detect and prevent fraud, while ensuring full compliance with regulatory and accessibility standards.”
Tom Grissen, Chief Executive Officer of Daon, added:

“G+D has a long history of innovation across a wide range of security solutions ranging from bank cards to central bank digital currency. They launched the first commercial SIM card and delivered the world’s first commercial eSIM. We are proud of Daon’s collaboration with G+D which facilitates the introduction of new scalable, secure identity verification and biometric solutions to millions of users across a wide range of industries and use cases.”
