Two Tractor Ventures OGs have teamed up to help deeptech founders with their funding plans.
Warwick Donaldson’s CapXcentric has partnered with GROUP GROUP, the new specialist advisory and storytelling curation firm founded by Garry Williams.
CapXcentric helps Australian technology startups access funding on the best terms, from the most appropriate investors.
works with a range of companies primarily with a foundation in commercialising research in science and engineering, including life sciences, agriculture, energy, climate tech, cybersecurity, AI, space and aerospace, advanced materials, robotics, hardware, and quantum computing.
Williams said the services the collaboration provides range from capital raise preparation and execution; investor negotiations, and informed insights.
Between them Donaldson and Williams have previously worked on more than 150 capital raises worth $400 million, plus and $50 billion in debt.
Williams said working with Donaldson at Tractor Ventures gives them a strong understanding of each other’s strengths in capital raising.
“I’ve long taken an interest in his unique and incredibly specialised ability to help this whole fundraise process make sense for deeptech founders,” he said.
“He’s informed based on his previous experience of doing the thing, and to me, he provides the right kind of advisory for those founders to succeed, and scale.”
Williams said he’s observed thousands of sessions of founder advisory “and availability heuristic is most definitely a real thing” with advisors “leaning on the first example that comes to mind” to provide judgments and make decisions.
‘So I’ve long found it very refreshing to observe Warwick at work, providing financially technical but common-sense advice for founders on how they achieve their mission, which is well researched and comprehensive,” he said.
‘I guess, we each reject the notions of poor and compromised advice in the technology world for founders. So, like a moth to a flame, I’m veering towards a collaboration with Warwick to collaborate on content and brand-building efforts, so that he can continue to provide the advisory and framework that deeptech founders need to execute their capital raise, via CapXcentric, and his publication ‘The Aussie Startup Capital Nerd.’
Williams was the first employee at Tractor Ventures, looking after their brand, marketing and engagement, as the alt capital provider scaled dramatically in the ANZ market recent years. This year he decided to launch GROUP GROUP as a specialist advisory and storytelling curation hybrid, focussed on the overlap between technology, culture and capital.
CapXcentric founder Warwick Donaldson said he’s worked on more than 150 startup fundraises.
“I’ve always placed the utmost importance on providing founders with the best possible advice to be able to fundraise most effectively,” he said.
“My best work is with deeptech companies. These founders work on incredibly complex solutions, often with highly technical financial requirements included. Helping unlock crucial investor partnerships for these founders is what I pride myself on, and love doing as they have positive impacts on the world.”
Donaldson said working with Williams at GROUP GROUP “is a strategically aligned growth exercise, and we have the same beliefs when it comes to quality advisory services, in the founders favour.”
