Polly Jean Harrison, features editor of The Fintech Times, joins Remy Blaire on FINTECH.TV to share insights from new research from Project Nemo, a not-for-profit initiative diving to improve disability inclusion in the fintech and financial services industries.
Project Nemo launched ‘Safe Spending for Adults with a Learning Disability: A Call to Action for Financial Services‘ sponsored by Nationwide Building Society, that revealed despite efforts to crack down on financial exclusion and make banking more accessible to a wider population, 61 per cent of people with learning disabilities say banks don’t always do enough to meet their needs.
32 per cent of these individuals do not have a bank account in their name, often resorting to informal workarounds that introduce unnecessary risks. Project Nemo are calling on the industry to consider the solutions that they offer to this vulnerable community, which would benefit and ensure the needs of this community are better understood and prioritised.
