Mobile DevOps platform Bitrise is now powering mobile app development for e-commerce giant Shopify, enabling the global commerce giant to streamline workflows, reduce complexity, and accelerate app builds by up to 50 per cent.

With over 875 million unique shoppers purchasing from Shopify merchants in 2024, it says that leveraging Bitrise enables it to expand its app capabilities and better serve its growing merchant base.

With smartphones driving over 75 per cent of US retail site visits and generating around 66 per cent of online shopping orders, retailers must focus on delivering seamless app experiences to meet growing consumer expectations. In an effort to stay ahead, Shopify has migrated from its in-house DevOps platform to Bitrise’s mobile-first platform.

“It’s great to have a partner like Bitrise that keeps up with our changing needs,” added Colin Gray, principal developer of mobile at Shopify. “Going forward, we want to keep leveraging Bitrise to improve our efficiency and reduce our CI/CD build time even further.”

By merging several development tools into one platform, Bitrise also simplified Shopify’s mobile environment, cutting complexity, and easing frustration for engineers.

“By enabling up to 50 per cent faster builds, more efficient CI/CD, and streamlined workflows, we’re helping Shopify focus on what it does best: shaping the future of e-commerce with exceptional merchant experiences,” explained Barnabás Birmacher, CEO of Bitrise. “We look forward to supporting Shopify as the team continues to scale and innovate.”

Bitrise’s fully hosted solution eliminates maintenance headaches and automates repetitive tasks, enabling engineers to focus on higher-value strategic work.

With Bitrise in place, Shopify says it is now well-positioned to advance its mobile strategy and drive further efficiencies. Yasmin Benatti, software engineer at Shopify, said: “We wanted more than just a vendor relationship; we wanted a partner we could grow and evolve with, which is exactly what we’ve found with Bitrise.”
